2020 – Curaçao Environmental Archaeology Field School
Location: Willemstad, Curaçao
Program Dates: May 31 – July 3, 2020
Institution: Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, Canada
Application Deadline: January 31, 2020
Join us summer 2020 in the Caribbean for an environmental archaeology field school on the beautiful, biodiverse island of Curaçao. Students will work with an international team to reconstruct landscape history around Jan Thiel Lagoon, the location of pre-Columbian archaeological sites, colonial plantations, and an important, modern-day bird conservation area. Participants receive hand-on training in zooarchaeology, geoarchaeology and geophysical survey, while experiencing the island’s rich culture and natural wonders in a series of group excursions. This is a research driven project offering students the opportunity to develop practical skills in environmental archaeology and contribute actively to paleoecological knowledge.
