Estudios Lingüísticos, Socioculturales y Etnohistóricos Sobre Pueblos del Gran Chaco Sudamericano
Spearheaded by Dr. María Belén Carpio at the Instituto de Investigaciones Geohistóricas (IIGHI)-CONICET/Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, this research group unites scholars and students from IIGHI and Universidad Católica Argentina in Argentina and the Human Animal Lab in the U.S. in the study of hunter-gatherers, ethno-linguistics, and traditional ecological knowledge of the Gran Chaco region.

In May 2024, the research group hosted a workshop on “Diálogos entre Lingüística, Etnografía e Historia” (“Dialogues Between Linguistics, Ethnography, and History”), with Dr. Marcela Mendoza representing the Human Animal Lab. During her visit, Dr. Mendoza gave a public lecture on the colonization of the Bolivian Chaco in the 19th century, with a focus on inter-ethnic relations in the Pilcomayo river region.
