Reflections on biking in NL v. Denmark

As I have stated before I prefer Copenhagen over Amsterdam, I cannot make a direct say about the countries differing though as we still have some cities to see in the Netherlands. The cultural difference that I sort have already addressed in my Amsterdam thoughts but again Miranda used a single bird versus a flock of birds. In Copenhagen, there’s this nature of going on your own but yet again I think it is very social and interconnected. Whereas here is a swarm and we are all moving collectively together. Me, this style in Amsterdam does not work for me. I like the structure and systems in place. It gives me a sense of stability and Amsterdam was unstable for me. Denmark has more structure and infrastructure there to make the rider comfortable. The Netherlands is constantly moving so it seems as though there never is a full stop unless somebody comes out. Denmark again has more connection in keeping the biker on the road and a part of the road. Whereas the Netherlands does this in an entirely different way. They have continuous paths that make going longer happen. I did like the outer areas of the city but the inner city I did not like the infrastructure. Many roads were bumpy and broken as bricks were coming out in my experiences. I loved the smoothness and continuous paths of Denmark. I felt safer in Copenhagen whereas Amsterdam I did not feel safe. There is more for me to see in the Netherlands but Amsterdam was not a city I would look to as guidance for the USA. The USA needs to develop a culture of biking and needs the structure to do that. Copenhagen has a style that is adaptable and is needed in our country. The stoplights and footrests for riders are something we completely need! We also need a connected bike lane system. I would think it would be really cool to have painted lanes as well. We have to make biking a main part of transportation. And some places we have a good start but a long way to go. We have to address the issues like Copenhagen.
