Amsterdam: Thoughts

Amsterdam has not grown on me but that is okay. Mindy Schlossberg stated that this place is a living organism. This is very accurate, it is a constant movement of spirals and quickness. Here you have to continue to pay attention. We share the roads with mopeds and vehicles that get a little close. Amsterdam is not my favorite place but there is still so much here has to offer. Being known as the bike city brings a lot of opinions about it. You have to hold the city proper to the infrastructure that is needed to take it by storm. As I have biked around I have seen the places and areas that are built to last. I also noticed certain areas are very unmanaged. I also don’t think I am the most skilled biker for this city, which I was having a hard time with but is completely okay. When everyone was talking about their love for Amsterdam I just couldn’t relate. In the meeting with Miranda, she gave a wonderful example of the structures with an analogy. She used the geese for Copenhagen and a swarm of birds for Amsterdam. Illustrating the difference in styles. How Copenhagen is a go on your own and Amsterdam is a swarm of everyone moving together. I am glad that I visited Amsterdam and had the experience to be here. I think I will be back but for now, this place didn’t steal my heart nor amaze me with the infrastructure. Me, this place is very chaotic and not structured enough for me. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a great place. For one the diversity here is huge compared to Copenhagen. So many people here speak different languages and interact with different people. From creepy cheese factory to boat tour, Amsterdam will go down in my books for sure.
