Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta (ΦΑΘ) is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The society has over 400,000 members, with some 9,000 new members joining each year through 970 chapters nationwide. It is also the publisher of the journal Historian and hosts numerous regional and national conferences each year.

Mission Statement

We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students and teachers together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways.

Membership

Membership in Phi Alpha Theta is open to anyone who has taken 16 credits or more history courses and has maintained a GPA of at least 3.1 in history and an overall GPA of 3.0. If you have not completed 16 credits yet, you are still welcome to participate in chapter activities.

For more information about membership, contact our chapter’s faculty advisor, Professor Timothy Williams: timw@uoregon.edu
