Writing is all around us. It can very easily affect us, but there are those special pieces that really make a difference to us. These pieces may differ from person to person, but they all have a few things in common. These pieces of writing have messages about something profound and meaningful, something that will stick in your mind. The other component is that makes a good job of proving their point. They persuade the reader to think critically or similarly to their thought process. Whatever it is that catches the reader’s attention, these pieces stick in our minds and change how we act or think later down the line.
A Piece of Writing that Makes a Difference
This is a piece of writing I read and analyzed for my writing 121 class. Jill Parrot’s essay looks at and critiques the way our society looks at the skill of writing. Her overall claim is that people are not born talented writers but more so that it is a muscle that you have to exercise repeatedly to strengthen. This made a profound impact on me in my second week of college because I was not confident in my writing abilities. I felt so much more comfortable with my own skills after reading this piece, and now as I come to the end of my first, I feel as though I have greatly improved.

Example of my Writing
This piece of writing is important to me because it was one of the first times I felt really round about my own writing. This essay is my first essay for my journalism class here at the UO. I was nervous about my first big college essay because I am not very confident in my writing. But as I began to work on the essay I started to really enjoy myself and the content I was creating. By the end I was very happy with my final product and even got an A on the paper. This was a very reaffirming moment for me that made a huge difference in my self-confidence.
