Final Reflection

Entering the class, I wanted to gain valuable experience in the form of an agency/client related scenario. Photographer and friend Pete Alport, a nationally known outdoor photographer, has been in need of a website throughout his career, but has neglected this valuable asset. Upon speaking with Pete, a mutually beneficial project was agreed upon. The project led to great excitement for myself, since I was creating something for a friend and creating a useable product for a client.
While speaking with Pete about what he desired in a website aesthetic and logo, I began to sketch website design ideas. After completion of many design sketches, I contacted Pete for feedback. This process was met with general difficulty and frustration on my part, because of Pete’s complete disregard of communication. Furthermore, the lack of communication and follow through continued throughout the entire process with Pete. Through persistent repeated email requests, phone calls, and text messages I was unable to connect with Pete to gain the appropriate content. In spite of this massive amount of adversity, I was eventually relentless and resourceful enough to gather what I needed from Pete and complete the website.
Through all of the client cooperation difficulties, I was able to gain the knowledge and experience I set out to achieve. The most valuable asset gained was the experience of working with a difficult client. Additionally, I became more familiar with the Adobe Suite, Squarespace, Google Analytics, and mobile web development.
I am very happy with the result of the website and logo. The finished product came out clean, contemporary, and easy to read. To confirm my view of the site’s strength, I sent it to several professional designers and photographers for review. While they helped in minor grammatical suggestions, they were also very impressed with the outcome of the website. I feel I have gain valuable knowledge that can be applied to my future career. Next time I will provide a contract, which will involve stipulations; the client will need to adhere to for a successful product and smoother process.
