There are many things about this class that I would like to explore. These are probably my top seven…

1.) Observing participation for the art community. This would include how people get involved and stay connected with an organization. Does media pages help or hinder people wanting to stay as volunteers? I know I can get annoyed if someone sends me emails constantly that I may not find it as important. Yet, I love getting reminders about events.

2.) I would like to study or discuss the possibilities for new venues in art.

3.) There is abundance of art on the internet and easy accessible. What do people miss from the experience? Is seeing a Van Gogh as a picture really experiencing his expressive brushstrokes? I would agree that it isn’t but what other ways can students really access works of paintings?

4.) How do we measure plagiarism? How can we determine how much is the same and how much is our own twist on art? This reminds me of the Day of the Dead exhibit coming up in Maude Kerns. A lot of work are recognizable paintings but with a Day of the Dead theme to them. I wouldn’t consider this plagiarism but Duchamp’s Mona Lisa is something to argue about. (Still love his work though)

5.) I am really excited about the field guide. The whole process of creating a field guide, narrowing down ideas, and executing the research is exciting. It will be interesting to see what I can some up with for a subject.

6.) Terminology of the course will be a new discovery as well. There have already been theme of words like participation and aesthetics. It is great to see what other scholars are using as terminology and other assortment of words to describe there research.

7.) Coming up with solutions. Maybe one of us in the new co hort will find some way to answer questions like new distribution of art. I hope it is an on-going process with layers of possible answers.

Those are the top 7 objectives for the Art & Society course.
