Here are the marketing strategies for my individual project and OCT Group

OCT-Final Paper

Research Methods – Reflection

This was a very valuable class for me this term. I thought I already knew a lot about research but this class proved me wrong. One thing I learned this term is that there are many methods that can be used in research. It is also interesting looking at methods first and literature reviews in order to pick a topic. During my undergraduate courses, I looked at topics only related to Art History. It was not until the McNair Scholars program that I realized there is research about so many other topics. This course has helped me to find a topic I really want to look into that is not just related to museums, but with education as a whole. These are the three important lessons from the course.

1.) The difference between Research Methodologies and Methods. It was easy to distinguish methods but I never realized the different methodologies used outside the Art History realm.

2.) How to illustrate my ideas on a poster more effectively. Having marketing before the poster presentation gave the class as a whole more creativity and really eye appealing posters. We did a great job.

3.) The class has really pointed me in a new direction as a research topic. Although, I am still interested in all the other topics I have came up with during the term, museum education has been really interesting to look at. I also got a lot of great feedback from a lot of people after the poster session. It really validated that this was an important matter.

Media Marketing and Communication II – Reflection

There have been many things I have learned in this course.  Looking back at my goals, I realized I didn’t know what to expect from the class. All the different marketing strategies are all great ways to approach a new marketing campaign. The best part of the course was the group project. OCT, in my opinion, have great ideas from us on how to gain the attention of college students. It is still surprising that they have not approached or have participated with student organizations. These are the top five things I have learned in the Winter MMC class.

1. There are many different approaches and strategies that are inexpensive and effective for nonprofits. I want to read more about Conrad’s specific marketing strategies for nonprofits.

2. Coming up with strategies specific for a company really defines the organization and you must reflect every aspect of the organization with limited space/time.

3. There is no reason why nonprofits can advertise like profits.

4. Marketing teams seem to have the most fun if they are allowed to express their creativity.

5.  Answering Who, What, When, Where, and How is important when discussing new advertising ideas. Also, you can do this with images.

Overall, the class was really fun and it was my favorite this term.

Ethical Issues in the Enola Gay aircraft

Here is my ethical issue paper on the exhibit that showed the Enola Gay aircraft. Hope you enjoy.

Week 6 Reflection: Halley Perry

This week’s discussions where a theme of how to ethically designing an exhibit. Going to JSMA was an eye opener of how external factors really impact how a museum is perceived by the individual viewer. One aspect always on my mind includes how children perceive museum like JSMA. I may even do a research topic on the matter. Are museum trying to be more family friendly? Or is that a demographic that is not their most concern?

One thing I can say that I have learned during this course and the Cultural Museum is that it is subjective for the individual to how they perceive their environment.  There are also so many other decisions that effect how the environment is perceived. For example, how JSMA has so many doors that they seem closed off. I remember my first visit I was not sure if you were allowed to see the Chinese collection. However, they have to do this due to temperature control that helps preserve the works.  I have seen the same issue with another museum and knew that it was the reason they had numerous doors. Not every viewer has this knowledge but hopefully it starts a conversation and that viewer can learn something new.  Some of these “issues” should bring a dialogue and it was great to discuss all the different experienced in JSMA.

Week 9 Lexicon

I have to first say, I can not believe this is the last round of Lexicon for our first term in graduate school. That being said, here are my brief definitions for these three words.

Composition – This is a word commonly used by artists and designers. It is much like the discussion we have on placement and environment.  It reminds me of famous paintings and terminology like an S curve. It also reminds me of how important spacing is to create successful designs, especially, for logos.

rhythm  There are many meanings I have came up quickly for rhythm. For me, rhythm can be the beat of the music or a pace you take at work. Rhythm reminds me of the songs that can get stuck in your head. I believe that is a good measure of how successful a song is for an artist. The latest rhythm in my head has been “I Will Burn with You” by Lea Michelle.

Another way I use the word rhythm is the pace of work I am doing. You can get a rhythm during a game by playing well or if you have a project that is due in a few days and you feel you have accomplished a lot. These are some of the ways I use the word rhythm.

domestic – This is my last word. EXCITING! Well domestic, for me, kinda has a negative ring to it. Women use to be domestic, meaning doing work in the household. It has a political tone for anti-feminism. However, a better meaning of the word is something not made abroad. It depends on the context of the word whether it is positive or negative condensations.

Week 6 Lexicon

These are great words to discuss as a group.

Choice – The word choice relates to the 2nd reading we did for this week. I still believe museums have the choice to use technology in the exhibits. However, I think on site museums or living museums would not benefit with technology in their exhibits. They should use social media, websites, and equipment to benefit their operations aspect. The way discussion went in class, it seems everyone thought they would need more. The word choice means that their are different options for an individual, a group, or an organization. I also think choice goes hand in hand with editing. Choice seems to depict the options while edit is the final decision. Those two create a process.

Sustainability -This word reminds me longevity for an organization. It is one thing as non profit leaders we should always keep in mind for an organization. In all, this word means the ability to exist. For me it’s a precaution. To always save for a time you might need emergency fund.

Innovation – This means a new cutting edge way to complete a process. Another way I understand this word is an idea that is implemented. Once it is implemented, it creates a dent in the universe. Sorry, just watched “Jobs.” Which brings be to the next point that innovation reminds me of an inspiration. It’s something that will change how we make voices and how we sustain.
