Set in a vibrant part of the West University neighborhood, the Bier Stein attracts many different patrons. The simple CMU exterior stops at the door as the fun, warm, and open interior invites you in to enjoy the atmosphere and food. With consistent German inspire motifs found throughout the space such as banners, steins, and wood accents, the space is littered with pop icons which communicate a relaxed environment. A split-level space allows for seating to be separated into areas of various sizes, privacy, and activity. The central bar area connects the areas and allows for easy access when the user is ready to order. Tucked in back, a fire crackles which gives the space a cozy feel. Despite its location in downtown, it boasts its own parking lot which encourages people to choose the Bier Stein as their local “watering hole” over the many other options. As a stand-alone structure, the building has discrete spaces for brewing on site while also accommodating many tables and a dedicated area for quick to-go drink purchases.

more secluded with less foot traffic, this space is better for more intimate groups. A pool table offers entertainment for groups, and a secondary cocktail bar is set discreetly to the right.

Building exterior

The relatively plain CMU box is spruced up by ample outdoor seating that is open to everyone. Planter boxes bring much needed vegetation and life to an area that was once just a boring parking lot. Lights above allow patrons to enjoy their food and drinks late into the mild summer nights.
