Conservative Germany’s Response to Refugees, 2015

PEGIDA, a populist movement with an anti-islamic and anti-immigrant message, shared its 10 demands, regarding German asylum policy. PEGIDA, and acronym for “Patriotische Europäer gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes”, or “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West” in English, was founded in 2014 in Dresden, Germany. Beginning with only a few dozen followers, PEGIDA’s message has gained traction within Germany, with city-specific offshoots, as well as other European countries such as Norway and the UK. The demands, linked here from PEGIDA Hannover’s website, are translated below.

PEGIDA is a voice in a growing chorus of nativist rhetoric in Germany and the rest of the EU. The demands were posted over the growing concern of refugees and asylum seekers in Germany after more than 1 million have already come to the country since 2015. Providing insight into the conservative beliefs and values of PEGIDA’s thousands of supporters, PEGIDA calls for a halt to refugee intake, greater border control, and mass deportations. As a conservative, right-wing organization, PEGIDA features a clear political and religious bias, taking a stance against Islamization and defense of Germany’s Judeo-Christian values.

1. Wir fordern einen sofortigen Aufnahmestopp für Asylanten, d.h. wir fordern ein Asyl Notstandsgesetz – jetzt!
2.  Wir fordern strenge Grenzkontrollen, d.h. wir fordern, SOFORT das Schengen-Abkommen auszusetzen – und zwar für alle Grenzen Deutschlands!
3. Wir fordern, dass der Kreis der “sicheren Herkunftsstaaten“ auf ALLE Mitgliedsländer des Europarates erweitert wird!
4. Wir fordern ein ZEITLICH BEFRISTETES Asylrecht für Kriegsflüchtlinge!
5. Wir fordern eine verbindliche Obergrenze für die jährliche Aufnahme von Asylanten, und zwar festgelegt durch uns selber, das Aufnahmeland Deutschland!
6. Wir fordern endlich Ehrlichkeit in der Integrations-Debatte und ein Ende des rot-grünen sozial-romantischen Märchens, hier Massen von männlichen, afrikanischen Asylanten integrieren zu wollen!
7. Wir fordern, dass sofort alle abgelehnten Asylbewerber und Hunderttausende illegale Immigranten konsequent abgeschoben werden!
8. Wir fordern, dass das Flüchtlingsproblem grundsätzlich vor Ort, in den eigenen Kulturkreisen geklärt wird!
9. Wir fordern, dass kriminelle Ausländer, die in Verbindung mit islamischen Terrororganisationen stehen, SOFORT ausgewiesen werden!
10. Der zu erwartende Widerstand aus Brüssel über jede Veränderung unserer deutschen Zuwanderungs- und Asylpolitik muss mit Austritt aus dem uns alle drangsalierenden Saftladen EU beantwortet werden!

Translation:

1. We call for an immediate halt to asylum seekers, meaning we demand an emergency asylum-law now!
2. We call for strong border control. We demand the immediate suspension of the Schengen agreement for all of Germany’s borders
3. We demand that the zone of “safe countries of origin” be expanded to all EU member countries.
4. We call for temporary asylum for war refugees.
5. We call for a binding limit to the yearly intake of  asylum seekers, determined by ourselves, the host country Germany!
6. We finally call for honesty in the integration debate and an end to the red-green social-romantic fairytales of wanting to integrate masses of male, African asylum seekers here.
7. We demand that all rejected asylum seekers and hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants be swiftly deported.
8. We demand that the refugee problem be primarily solved locally, in their own cultures.
9. We demand that foreign criminals with connections to terror organizations be immediately expelled.
10. The expected resistance from Brussels about alterations to German immigration and asylum policy must be answered by leaving the bullying dump that is the EU.
