We don’t need any more economic migrants from Latin America. Their requests should be processed quickly, and they should be sent home.

-Quote from rtamte in the comments section of the article

The question of what should be done with the influx of immigrants coming into the United States remained unsolved in the twentieth century, and the government’s lack of policy for immigrants failed to solve this question.  The lack of policy put a strain on the immigrants coming into the United States as well as the government of the United States as political pressure from the general populous made immigration a hot-button issue.

This article continuously questions what should be done about the immigration crisis.  The comments below the article show the perception held toward many immigrants coming from Central America.  Although this article focuses mostly on the increased violence in El Salvador as the root cause of the influx of immigration the article also mentions gang violence in Guatemala and Honduras as an increasing issue that has lead to immigration to the United States.

The comments from people who read the article are almost all negative with few exceptions.  There are many unwarranted claims in the comment section as well as negative opinions of the undocumented migrants.  The article itself could be used to prove that a migration problem still existed in the United States in 2015. The article is slightly biased in that the author, Molly Hennessy-Fiske, obviously believes the migration from Central America needs to be solved by the United States in one way or the other.

The comment section shows the perception of people in the United States towards people from Central America. It also shows the presumption that a new presidential candidate in the United States could solve this issue as there are many references to Donald Trump in the comment section.  This shows the hope the people of the United States have that a new president at this time period would have the ability to slow the amount of migrants coming from Central America.
