Intro into Ecuador

Ecuador is a country with a great amount of environment diversity, which has led to many advances in the environmental sciences, such as advances in geology, ecology, and evolution based upon research in Ecuador. In addition to being environmentally diverse, Ecuador also has a diverse indigenous population with more than ten indigenous languages that live on today with more than one million people in Ecuador having the ability to speak both Spanish and the indigenous language of the culture they were born into. Furthermore, the majority of the population practices Roman Catholicism with very few Protestants and little to no atheists.

Hi! I’m interested in global issues, and more specifically global health, because I want to join Doctors Without Borders or the Peace Corps eventually. Since our world is rapidly globalizing, it is important to ensure that all populations have access to adequate healthcare providers and supplies, and to make certain that rapidly growing populations have the ability and supplies to prevent another long-lasting pandemic.

I am interested in global studies because I am majoring in Chinese and also PPPM so I wanted to find a way to bring those two majors together. Global engagement and global studies was a perfect way to do that. In the future I want to work for an NGO, ideally in eastern Asia so I can continue to use Chinese in the work that I do.

Hello! My name is Joseph “Joey” Henriques. I’m from Modesto, California. I enjoy playing video games and watching sports on television. I am currently majoring in History. I am involved in the Global Engagement Arc because as someone who has always had a passion for learning about and studying the past and seeing how it impacts our modern day, I thought this would be a great class for me. I look forward to participating in this class during this term.
