GEO UPDATE: EARTHQUAKE IN ECUADOR

On the evening of Saturday, April 16, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit Guayaquil, Ecuador—the country’s most populous city. The quake destroyed hundreds of homes, knocked out power, and left more than 238 dead and 1,500 injured.

Global Education Oregon (GEO) has been able to confirm the safety of the only student on record studying in Ecuador.

The UO student is part of an IE3 Global Study Abroad program in Quito (452 km north from the epicenter of the quake).

The Office of International Affairs and GEO will continue to monitor this event.
