Rohingya Refugees Are in "Last Stages of Genocide"

Myanmar has an abundance of human rights issues plaguing it today. From the military coup that overthrew a democratically elected leader, to the persecution of the Muslim minority group the Rohingya, the circumstances of these abuses are considered some of the worst in the world at this time. The military government has been particularly brutal in their pursuit of power, committing violent and terrible acts against civilians and using this to gain and maintain their position as leaders of the country. Similarly, while other minority groups are prosecuted, no group has been attacked as brutally as the Rohingya who are treated not as citizens of their home lands but as foreigners who in 2017 faced a brutal genocide which led over half of the population to flee to Bangladesh. While the Rohingya face direct and brutal action, the military regime is also working to wipe out other minorities via “Burminisation”, an idea which has explicit ties to nationalism and the idea of creating a homogenous group that excludes those who do not fit within it’s confines. Though the human rights abuses in Myanmar garner a lot of international attention, there has been little done to try and correct the issue besides widespread condemnation.
