As the world continues to grow many have noticed cultures becoming endangered. These communities have slowly noticed their spoken languages disappearing and their cultural traditions being forgotten as the years go on.  This is true of Indonesia’s citizens as well. The Mentawai people have lived in the Indonesian archipelago for thousands of years. They have been socially and politically isolated for years and has a rich ecological value. Despite being away from majority of Indonesian life, the Mentawai people have noticed their traditions have been shrinking to a small amount. This lack of cultural practice and speaks has reduced the amount of mentawai language speakers drastically. The children of this culture are taught to converse in Bahasa Indonesian in schools. Many of the Mentawai people are doing anything to keep their culture alive including creating a dictionary of their language.
