Reflection

The assignment of identifying the thesis of Beverly Jones’ piece, and finding examples helped me examine the role of technology as a force for cultural maintenance and change. The artifact starts with Jones’ thesis that old cultural patterns may fade, but don’t die. How this artifact really helped me examine the role of technology as a force for change is by attentively reading for historical examples used by Jones. Jones uses multiple examples to highlight her points, such as Mercedes Benz. Jones also discusses how people can take time to adapt a certain new technology, which made me think of the Apple Watch. I did additional research on the Apple Watch and it is apparent the force Apple has a company in the technological industry.

The reason why this artifact helped me meet the objective of examining the role of technology as force for cultural maintenance and change is because it helped me reflect on the key points discussed by Jones. By identifying the thesis I had a good foundation to build on for the rest of my research. The Apple Watch is just one example of how technology can be a force for cultural maintenance and change.

Future

The current world is one filled of technology so this topic is definitely prevalent and very interesting. I plan to continue to keep abreast technological developments as I believe it is necessary to be knowledgeable regarding the newest technology. Some people choose to just not learn new technology simply because it is something they are not use to, which I feel is a mistake given new technology can improve daily living. It will be interesting to see how social media grows and how that impacts technology, as well as art. The collage consists of technological advancements and developments.
