Fuels and Fire Team – 

Julia Odenthal is a third-year student, majoring in Environmental Studies and Anthropology with a minor in Earth Sciences. Julia’s areas of focus include soil health, landscape management, and fire behavior and impact. After completing her undergraduate degree, Julia hopes to continue working on climate change mitigation efforts by working with governmental bodies and local communities, especially in rural areas. In her free time, Julia enjoys being outside, reading, painting, sewing, and taking care of her plants. 

Kaity Hardwick is a graduating senior majoring in Environmental Geoscience and Environmental Science, with minors in Geography and Anthropology. Kaity is knowledgeable in Oregon’s regional geology, geologic hazards, igneous petrology, soil science, and climate science. After graduation, Kaity hopes to pursue graduate research, and is primarily interested in finding innovative climate change solutions using a geologic perspective. Outside of school, Kaity manages a coffee shop and enjoys yoga, cooking, and rockhounding.

 

 

Isaac Slye is a Junior at the UO, majoring in Environmental Science and Earth Sciences while also earning a Certificate in Cinema Studies. Isaac’s areas of focus include Earth Systems Science, soil composition, restoration ecology, and local food/agriculture studies. Upon graduating, Isaac seeks to join a creative industry and make content that is influenced from an Earth Science perspective, crafting and sharing a narrative that is suited for an adapting environment. Outside of school, Isaac loves to go skateboarding and shoot pool. 

 

Zoey Bailey is a Junior at the UO, majoring in Environmental Science with minors in Spanish and Global Studies. Zoey is passionate about fire ecology, management of public lands, and community engagement in ecological restoration projects. Beyond the UO, Zoey aims to work as a wildland firefighter and abroad in an agroforestry Peacecorps position before pursuing future graduate studies. When she has free time, Zoey spends it on the trails – running, mountain biking, backpacking, or simply lying on her back looking up at trees.   

 

Jack Beetley is a Senior at UO, majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Art History and Sociology. Jack is passionate about land management, landscape design, tree identification, and sustainable city planning. After graduation, Jack is looking to work with a landscape construction company and help ensure sustainable infrastructure for the future. In free time Jack enjoys watching sports, painting, hiking, and anything involving sunlight. 

Hailey Jenkins is a junior at the UO, majoring in Environmental Studies and General Social Science with a concentration in Applied Economics, Business, and Society. Hailey is knowledgeable in sustainability, specifically in the areas of business, landscape design, and water treatment systems. Upon graduation, Hailey hopes to work with companies to improve corporate sustainability practices. In her spare time, Hailey enjoys hiking, traveling, and baking.  

 

Hans Bertelsen is a junior at UO, majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Sustainable Business. Hans is passionate about sustainability, watershed management, ecological degradation and sustainable business practices. Outside of the classroom Hans spends his time managing Oregon Wood Fired Pizza, a local event catering service. After graduation, Hans hopes to pursue a career in sustainable business.

 

Isabel Mosley is a senior graduating this term with a major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Climate Studies. Her area of focus includes ethnobotany, climate change mitigation, and regenerative agriculture. After graduation, Isabel will be completing an apprenticeship with the Anishinaabe Agriculture Institute and hopes to continue to explore the relationship between people and their environment. Outside of school, Isabel enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling.

 

Katie Stevermer is a junior at UO, majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Food Studies. Katie is knowledgeable about fire restoration, sustainability, agriculture, and soil science. Upon graduation, Katie hopes to continue to study sustainability and the environment. Outside of school, Katie enjoys playing on the university rugby team, exploring the outdoors, and reading.

 

Alex Murphy is a senior at UO, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Environmental Science. Alex has been outdoor-oriented his whole life spending most free time outdoors climbing, biking, skiing, and hiking. Last year with the ELP program, he collected data on Hendricks Park and its Douglas-fir canopy health. When Alex graduates, he hopes to go into the financial sector of sustainable wealth management by creating eco-friendly portfolios while still creating value for clients. 

 

Jaemie Bynum is a junior at the UO, majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Biology. Jaemie specializes in botany, plant systems, climate change mitigation, and sustainable water treatment technologies. She is involved in community restoration events and volunteering to remove invasive species. Upon graduation, she plans to implement restoration ecology and work to expand access to sustainability. In her spare time, Jaemie likes to read, hang with her cat, and go camping or hiking outdoors.
