Welcome to the Frankenstein WordPress Workshop

Welcome to the first DH workshop of 2017-2018.  Today we’ll focus on how to create a WordPress website.  And we’ll use Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as our guide. In this workshop you’ll learn about some of the amazing things you can create using WordPress themes, plugins, and tools.

Blogging 101

One of the most exciting features of WordPress is the ability to set up your own blog.  A few things to keep in mind:

While you’re learning how to blog it may be easier to write your post in Word and then copy/paste it into your WordPress site.  Many people are more familiar with the interface in Word and find they write more quickly/efficiently there.  Others prefer writing directly into WordPress.  The important thing is that you can choose your best option.

Blogs are a multi-media form of writing. You’ll want to find images, sound, or videos to help you create your post. Be sure the digital objects you import in your site are in the public domain.

Blogs work best when they’re kept regularly. Plan to post every week or twice a week. And be sure to insert a widget or connect a twitter/facebook link so that your followers will know each time you post something new.
