Tater tots arranged in a cast iron dish shaped like Minnesota; laid on a white table cloth

Tater Tot Hot Dish, or as my husband refers to it…Tot Dish, is a Minnesota delicacy!

I know it sounds weird, but don’t judge until you’ve tried it.  It’s delicious and comforting when it’s cold and rainy or snowy…so says everyone I’ve made it for on the west coast.  Plus, it’s super easy to make and it’s fun to arrange the tater tots on the top!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 or 2 cans condensed cream of chicken soup, depending how creamy you like it
  • 1 small bag of frozen vegetables (corn, green beans, and carrots)
  • 1 package of tater tots

Directions:

Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees.  While the oven is pre-heating brown the ground beef and drain off the grease.  Mix the ground beef with the can(s) of condensed cream of chicken soup (don’t add water) and frozen vegetables in a 2 to 2-1/2 quart baking dish.  Season if desired (but keep it bland for true Minnesota-style).  Add a layer of frozen tater tots on the top.  Cover with foil for 45 minutes.  Take the foil off and bake another 15 minutes more until hot and the tater tots are toasty.
