Emma, Hadley, Palmer Pt 2 Review
Review notes
- Basement structure (Emma has this)
- Views from the top floor
- Larger overhang entryway into building (east side) (openness/connection/shelter)
- WHY are we pulling the new building forward
- Shading vs views
- Service needs for Allen and Friendly
- Permeability
- Get the topography for the SE corner — site section
- Include trees in our 3D massing and axons (did we forget some types?)
- Create a structural section of intersection between bridge and Allen hall
- Bridge = new material
- What feeling do we want it to embody (an actual bridge? A passageway? A lounge area? An attraction?) base material off of what type of feeling
- Look into current “bridge” of Allen hall between the old and 2013 have that help influence
- Look at south facade of allen to help with bridge intersection
- Create a larger entryway (facade study)
- In structural 3D model:
- Change structure in basement and floor connection to be concrete
- “Nuisance plan a bit more in structure” (hard for a grid to accommodate all different programs – subdivide grid)
- Looking a bit more ~ experientially ~
- Top floor will be the most separated from the ground (most affected by winter and most distant from buzz of campus)
- I’ve set up a hierarchy of people ?? stop ?
- “Use a finer siv to stitch this building together”
- Programming doesn’t need to be “so clean” – because it will change over time, take into account some fluidity
- Uniqueness of the facade and its varying materials (ie tiles) : figure out how to express this on the inside as well
- Want to account for “graceful aging”
- Clarify entrance points
- Precedent : look at pathway directly East of our place
- Centerpiece of project: SE side. What’s going on the inside of this corner space? What will the massing and facade look like?
- Ignacio says: don’t throw this away but it is garbage. Go onto iteration 2 & 3 now
- Currently, no interaction between site & building & floors. Section has no quality. Needs interaction between floors and between the inside/outside
- If we’re retaining the walkway, use campus pattern strategy to not only retain the good things, but make them better. How will our bridge and the transparency of our building & program nearest to the walkway improve upon the circulation space?
