Students gathering to eat breakfast-1912

This first picture that I have selected is a black and white photograph of women from U of O in light colored dresses gathering in 1912 to eat breakfast together. They had extended a blanket in front of them and set the food there for them to eat. Photoshop was used in this picture to reorient and crop the picture, the shadows were neutralized and the midtone was adjusted. Just from looking at this picture one can tell that breakfast was a real formal event, all of the women are dressed up wearing their long, nice dresses and wearing their hats. This shows that back in the 1900’s breakfast was an event where you wanted impress the people you were eating with. It was not a relaxing event where you just meet up with friends to enjoy some time together.

This is another picture of U of O students having breakfast together in front of the EMU. This was something that was done as part of a project of Professor Coline Ive’s class. Even though this was part of a class project this sums up the idea of what breakfast is like now. One can see that all the students in this class are sitting at at table together having a good time and just dressed casual. Also in this picture one can see that both female and male are eating together which is something that I noticed was not present in the previous picture. In this picture one can see that this is not a formal event. This picture probably had some light correction but other than that I think it is a straight forward picture where there was not a lot of editing.
