Project Portfolio Description
Thurston High School is a public high school located in Springfield, Oregon. The mission of the College and Career Center (C&CC) at Thurston is to provide support and resources to students during high school and prepare students for life post-graduation. While the C&CC works with students at all grade levels, most services are directed at graduating seniors. This project, called Roadmap to Success: College Edition, assists freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in preparing for college. The purpose of this project was to foster early college preparation and increase the number of students who pursue higher education by providing weekly, virtual workshops on various college preparation topics. These topics included how to effectively set and achieve goals, how to create or improve a resume, the importance of getting involved and creating activities sheets, how to research colleges, and the importance of AP and College Now classes. Roadmap to Success: College Edition successfully provided resources and information to underclassmen students hoping to attend higher education in their future. This project served as a starting point to help these students take the first steps to making this goal possible. In the future, this project can be sustained by using the presentations already created to host similar workshops with future underclassmen. Students can also access these presentations via YouTube, or work with Thurston C&CC staff and interns individually to understand the information.
