Kids Exposed to Domestic Violence
Domestic violence affects millions of individuals and families, leaving them left to pick up the pieces of the violence and try to heal. Christians As Family Advocates (CAFA) is a non-profit organization that works with families to ensure that children are raised in a safe and conducive environment. CAFA works closely with clients who have either experienced or committed domestic violence, while their focus is on the adults in those situations, CAFA does do some work with kids. Through creating a handbook for families to utilize that have children who have been exposed to domestic violence, parents can work with their kids to help them heal from the trauma that they have endured. The handbook that has been created incorporates various resources that CAFA utilizes in their programs, but they have been catered to children, such as activities and techniques that parents can do with their children to ensure that they are able to process the violence that they have either witnessed or have been a victim of. This handbook has helped fulfil a gap in service at CAFA through creating a resource specific to children, which in turn can help all members of the family move forward from the trauma and healthy life.
