Project Portfolio Description

The Child and Family Center (CFC) is a University of Oregon affiliated clinic located in Eugene, Oregon. The CFC provides therapy-based prevention and support services for children and their families to encourage communication, problem-solving, and the strengthening of parent-child relationships. This project is the creation of an intern manual that will be provided to all new CFC interns to streamline intern training and establish clear expectations, increasing intern effectiveness. Prior to the implementation of this project, intern training was limited and required clinic coordinators to take time away from their other clinic responsibilities. Now, interns can complete most of their training independently when it works best for them. Additionally, due to the high rate of turnover in the clinic coordinator position, this standardized manual will help keep the internship consistent over time. Because circumstances and processes at the CFC are constantly changing, this manual will need to be periodically reviewed and updated by the current clinic coordinator to maintain its value. In addition to printed versions, an online copy of the manual is accessible to facilitate manual revisions and the printing of additional copies. Suggestions for future students include brainstorming project ideas early on, allowing more time to work on their project than they believe will be necessary, and ensuring the site students choose to complete their senior project with is a good fit for their professional interests. Overall, developing this intern manual went well and should have a positive impact at the CFC for years to come.
