Project Portfolio Description

Hilyard Community Center is one of the recreational centers in Eugene, Oregon. The center’s mission is to offer a year-round, community-based recreational, social, and educational programs and creational opportunities for children, teenagers, and adults with disabilities in the whole Eugene community. My Senior project ‘Fitness for Me’ focused on supporting an individual with disabilities to gain a healthier body and lifestyle through doing workout activities together and developing social skills. The project provides more intensive services to participants who prefer individual activities instead of group activity. Participants also have a benefit of building closer relationships with program facilitators and a small number of other participants. The ‘Fitness for Me’ project develops each other’s leadership skills through participation in programs by participants and program facilitators and provides the community with positive results that improve everyone’s lives in a healthy way. For the sustainability of the project, everyone involved should focus on identifying the interests of the participants and developing appropriate exercise plans to continue their interest. One recommendation is to have a lot of conversations with the participants during the project time and to be their leader and friend.
