Project Portfolio Description

Ophelia’s Place is a non-profit organization in Eugene, Oregon that focuses on empowering girls in the community through education and support. They serve girl-identified youth ages 10-18 years old and offer a variety of programs such as therapy, after-school services, and school groups and presentations. Although Ophelia’s Place focuses on girls within the community, parental involvement plays a vital role in the development of these girls. For my project, I have developed two presentations for parents or guardians to learn about social media and the effects it has on girls, how to promote body positivity, and healthy communication, friendships, and boundaries. The benefit of this project includes skills and tools for parents to help their youth as well as information for these topics. One of the challenges for this project involved the pandemic, therefore the ability to present this information and gain feedback was not available. Another challenge involves presenting this information to parents as a student who may not have as much experience in terms of parenting. For future use, these presentations could be used for a workshop accompanied by an activity. A pre-and post-survey has already been completed to assess the workshop.
