Making a Difference: Face For Radio
By: Kyle Fagan
Who: Spencer Tanner: Creator, lead singer, and guitarist of the local rock band, Face For Radio.
Where: Face For Radio, a local student run band.
What It/they do/does: The band Face For Radio is a student run band local to Eugene, OR, that works to create a central networking hub with other musicians and local student run bands to strengthen the local rock music scene. Face For Radio also competes in local music competitions, where they have recently been scheduled to play in Eugene’s WOW Hall, for the “Bandest of the Bands” competition on February 13th.
Funding: Self funded.
Impact: Face For Radio acts as a communication hub and a bridge for other local and student run bands that may be new to the music scene, lack guidance, or are interested in networking and unifying the Eugene music scene.
Success Story: At last year’s “Bandest of the Bands” hosted by WOW Hall, Face For Radio played in front of its largest crowd of the year. Despite the unanimous support by the audience, the band was snubbed out of a first place finish. Nonetheless, Face For Radio, a mere second year band at the time, was able to build a fan base and notoriety amongst the University of Oregon campus and local music scene as legitimate musicians; further strengthening their connection with the Eugene music scene and ultimately leading to the creation of their EP “House Cat.”
Parting Words: “With being in a college town and being college students, school always comes first and it’s been difficult to prioritize with work obligations as well, but slowly but surely we’ve managed to make a name for our self as a band and in the local Eugene Music scene.”
