Enjoy fun activities as Spring brings us shine and beautiful blooming flowers!

  1. Enjoy the outdoors and have an interest in learning about different kinds of birds? Well look no further, Mount Pisgah Arboretum is hosting their monthly Bird Walk on May 12th. Come learn about bird identification and local bird calls and behaviors. No experience is needed!
  2. Have an interest in all things science? The Eugene Science Center is hosting Tot Discovery Days on May 3rd to introduce young, upcoming scientists to exciting topics through fun activities and interactive stations.
  3. Enjoy beautiful wildlife and music at Mount Pisgah Arboretum’s annual Wildflower & Music Festival on May 19th. There will be workshops, food booths, arts and crafts for kids and adults and much more! Come out to enjoy blooming wildflower species!
  4. Love art and would like to hear from local, featured artists? Lane Arts Council is hosting its First Friday Artwalk in downtown Eugene on May 3rd. Enjoy a guided tour including other galleries and venues!

Gobble, gobble CAPS families! Read below for some fun family activities.

  1. Rain or shine, you can count on Mt. Pisgah Arboretum to provide activities and food for all families! In the spirit of giving, parking, games and campfire food are all FREE! Check out Play in the Rain Day November 11th.
  2. Check out Festival of Trees from November 21-November 25. Eugene downtown is transformed into the North Pole and is worth checking out to get into the holiday spirit.
  3.  Head outside and grab your fishing pole because from November 23-November 24 Oregon is hosting Free Fishing Days! Families can go anywhere in Oregon that is open to fishing. It’s a great time to bring everyone together for an adventure.
  4. Santa is coming to town! Come meet Santa on November 24th while Fifth Street Public Market hosts Night of a Thousand Stars. If you’re not interested in Santa, still come on down for some amazing lights, winter snowfall, and fun music.
  5. From now through December 30th, learn about the hunt for aliens! The Eugene Science Center has a brand new planetarium which will blast you through the entire universe! This program is suited for all ages and might even make you believe we are aliens.

BOO! Welcome to October! Who is ready to welcome cold weather, sweaters, and lots of hot coco? Keep reading to find out about other fun things to do this month!

  1.  Nearby Nature needs your help carving pumpkins! Head over to the Alton Baker Park Residence on October 18th to help carve over 80 pumpkins for the Haunted Hike. They have tools you can borrow or feel free to bring your own! And be sure to bring a friend too.
  2.  To go see your hard work put on display, head to the Haunted Hike on October 20th for some spooky fun. But if you’re not much into haunted, check out their crafts, games, and yummy treats instead!
  3. To get into the holiday spirit, grab your family and head to the Pumpkin Auction and Family Halloween Party at Adventure Children’s Museum. Face painting, prizes, and pumpkins galore!
  4.  If you love to dance and you love vampires, then you are going to LOVE this fun story time and performance that gives you both! Make sure to stay after for fun Halloween crafts as well. If interested in more details, click here.
  5.  Need a place to trick or treat? Head to downtown Eugene on October 31st where over 800 kids, families, and friends will join in on a night of food, games, and live music! Make sure to dress up in your favorite costume for the costume contest- maybe you’ll win!

A September to Remember

School is back to consume our days, but we can still have fun in so many ways!

  1. PetFest is happening at Lively Park on September 29th! This is a free event featuring educational sessions and demonstrations for all types of pets, lots of local vendors, prize drawings and of course, pets!
  2. On September 23rd Sunday Streets will be hosted in West Eugene! This free events opens up the streets of Eugene as a safe space for people to walk and bicycle. Several stages will feature local artists & the entire area will be laid out with fun family activities. In addition, you can get a free bus pass for the day by visiting their website to help you get there!
  3. Enjoy the Youth Farm Fest hosted by FOOD for Lane county on September 15th for free pick your own flour bouquets, fresh produce samples, cooking demonstrations, critter creations, cider pressing, and face painting!

Although summer is coming to a close, there is still many places where families can go!

August: Summer or Fall?

Either way, you can have it all!

  1. From August 9th-12th, Junction City is hosting the 58th annual Scandinavian Festival! Admission is free for all and the fair features three stages with various performances, fair food, vendors with unique crafts, and trolls and vikings strolling through the streets!
  2.  August 14th is family day at the farmer’s market, allowing kids the opportunity to be superheroes for a day! The Exploration Station will provide microscopes and other tools to use super eyestrength to investigate insects, plants and seeds. Whiteaker Printmakers will bring an etching press so kids can transfer their drawings of favorite superheroes into an original print. STOP DROP & YOGA will lead a class to train children and adults so they can fly like raptors and grow taller than trees. Through recycled materials, MECCA will help kids create their own superhero accessories Other activities include giant chess, an imagination station, scavenger hunts, a bike-powered smoothie blender and a ladybug release.
  3. If you’re still feeling like enjoying summer time perks, movies in the park are a must see, here’s where you can catch them for free:

    August 3 – La Misma Luna (en español) at Monroe Park

    August 4 – Wonder Woman at Bethel Community Park

    August 10 – Lilo & Stitch at State Street Park

    August 11 – Breakfast at Tiffany’s at Sladden Park

    August 17 – Ratatouille at Trainsong Park

Fireworks, Freedom, and Fun!

Hello again, CAPS families! Here are some cool events happening this month:

  1. It’s a party in the park! On July 10th at Churchill Sports Park there will be a free performance and swing dancing lessons. This is sure to be a fun and unique way to get out and enjoy the sun with the whole family!
  2. On July 22nd, the Lane County Fair is offering free admission with the donation of 3 canned food items per person. The fair is an awesome place to catch pig races, magic shows, and performances from various parts of the community!
  3. On July 20/21 Coburg is hosting the 50th Golden Years Festival, which features a Pet Parade, Kids’ Rodeo, bounce houses and dunk tanks, and tons of food vendors, all free of charge!
  4. On July 28th, Springfield is hosting a Children’s Celebration at Island Park. There will be live music and fun activities for kids including face painting, balloons and crafts, as well as live music and pony rides! Admission is free with a canned food donation.

Jump For June!

When the sun is out and school’s out, it’s time for you and the family to get out and enjoy!

  1. On June 8th check out the Little Wonders event at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History. This month’s theme is Awesome Ocean Wonders! Your kiddos will get to enjoy a story, play games, and create a deep-sea craft to take home.
  2. It’s a Party in the Parks! Catch live music, good eats, circus arts, and a bike helmet giveaway on Tuesday nights all throughout summer. This month it will take place on 6/19 at Tugson Park and 6/26 at Willakenzie Park.
  3. On June 23rd check out the Oregon Aviation Historical Society’s 5th annual Wings & Wheels showcase! Ice cream and great food will be offered all day while you take in the glory of vintage “things that go”. Children 12 and under get in free and adult admittance costs only $5.
  4. On June 27th the Creswell Library will be hosting Oregon Rocks! This is a free family event which includes hands on exhibits and experiments centered around rocks, fossils, earthquakes, and volcanoes.

May Play


The sun and the flowers are out, it’s shaping up to be a beautiful month full of fun! Here’s A few ways to enjoy it:

  1. On May 6th, get out fishing on the Alton Baker Canoe Canal with the whole family. At this events, equipment and instruction will be provided, and kiddos 11 and under fish for free!
  2. On May 12th, enjoy a free Mother’s Day breakfast at the river road park. There will be lots of yummy food as well as fun crafts for the whole family!
  3. On May 19th, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is hosting a free family day. You will be able to explore art with all of your senses with all the people you love, and enjoy some cool performances!
  4. Watch your favorite Oregon Ducks Softball compete against Utah from May 4-6! This event costs $5 per person and will be hosted at the Jane Sanders Stadium.

April: The Prime Puddle Splashing Month

Nature is beautiful, the rain is cold – giving love for the earth, never gets old!

  1. Celebrate Earth Day with your family at Eugene Science Center! On April 22nd, get free exhibit hall admission, one free planetarium show, and enjoy special activities about the science of our home planet – Earth!
  2. On April 21st, Eugene celebrates mother earth with an exciting festival at Venue 252! There will be vendors, crafting events, and all ages performances which encourage earth-friendly and healthy living. This event is completely free between 12-5pm and $6 adults/ $4 kids after 5:30pm.
  3. Newts are the funniest and slimiest creatures in the world, and this event is all about them! On April 28th, enjoy a newt quest in Tugman Park! Learn about these cool critters from naturalist and University of Oregon professor Tom Titus as we explore the wild side of this south Eugene park for the third year in a row!

No matter the weather, it’s funner to weather it together 🙂

March into March!

Spring time makes me want to hop with JOY – let’s get outside or play with a toy!

  1. If you want to get outdoors, learn how to fish, eat snacks, and win prizes, the Kid’s adventure club is just the place for you! On March 3rd, this FREE event will be hosted in Springfield, so be sure to load up the whole family for a cool adventure. For additional info, click here!
  2. Springtime is the perfect time to celebrate the beauty of flowers! On March 17-18, The Daffodil Festival is coming to town – and it’s bringing live music, antique cars, wagon rides, quilt shows, cinnamon rolls, and MUCH more with it! This event is totally free and held rain or shine!
  3. Every Tuesday thru Saturday 10-4, you can learn about the history of TOYS! From the 1800s to now, play has changed a lot – so it’s important to celebrate how many more ways we can play together! All kiddos under 15 years old get in free at the Lane County Historical Society and parents are only $5
  4. At the Cobalt Activity Center at 6pm on March 3rd, don’t miss a free family movie night! Bring your own blankets or cushions to get cozy, enjoy low priced pizza and snacks, and watch the cool new Wonder Woman movie!
