Inside the Lagazuoi mountain there are miles of tunnels that were built during World War One. Here, you discover some of the grueling conditions that soldiers endured and you can see the environmental destruction caused by the war.

To go up the tunnels, you start outside the mountain on a more traditional trail.

Part way up, you do need to gear up to keep going safely. There are dangerous sections that have ferratas that you can clip into to so that you will be caught if you slip.

Along these paths, you can see where soldiers went around the mountain, where they lived, where they stored things, and more.

You also see some frieghtening drops and you realize soldiers walked these paths without any safety equipment. Also, you see evidence of where mines have blown up and destroyed some of the mountain.

Once inside the tunnels, you occasionally can see the sky though windows in the rock.

You also see how small the spaces are inside the tunnels and how steep the climb is.

You also see remnants of storage facilities, engine rooms, and more.

Towards the top, you even see the rooms where they kept machine guns. By then, you wonder how they got everything up there and how they lived under those conditions for so long.

Lastly, after doing the whole hike, you will be shocked and dismayed about the destruction and darkness that comes from war. You will also discover that nature always finds a way to amaze you, like these small plants clinging to the rock waiting to greet you as you climb. Despite the effects of the war on the mountain, beauty and nature prevail over time.
