The Dolomolimte Mountains have a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna and a cultural diversity of languages and traditions. The predominant aspect that stuck most throughout our journey over the past few days was the Latear Mountain. Throughout our journey within the mountains, I focused on pausing to encapsulate the landscape in order to let it work cohesively within my day-to-day life. I have gained a new perspective on the beauty and complexity of nature, as I have now realized that the Latemar and the Dolomites are not just rocks but living entities that have evolved over millions of years.
An aspect of the Latemar which really stood out to me regadring the coexistence of man amonst the mountain was the presence of all the cattle along the hillside. In the Alps and Pre-alps the livestock, particularly cattle, was the main source of income, therefore the greater the number of heads that could be maintained, the greater the livelihood opportunities for a family. As a result these cattle as seen from the photo above and become a huge part of the cultural identity for the people of Norther Italy.
The adventure amongst the coulds.
