Hello! My name is Cecilia Torvik. I’m going into my senior year at the University of Oregon. I’m majoring in History and minoring in Secondary Education. I grew up mostly in Oregon so I love most things outdoors. My hobbies include reading, puzzling, traveling, hiking, and camping.

My dad is from Norway. So, my family and I every other year travel to Norway to visit for a couple of weeks during the summer. One of my favorite places to visit whenever we are in Norway is a place called Trollstigen.

Trollstigen is a moutain road and pass in Rauma Municiplaity, Møre og Romsdal, Norway. The road is a long series of switch-backs. The road is 34 miles, about a 2 hour drive. It’s around 2,790 feet elevation gain. The switch-backs are very narrow. Due to the narrow raods and popularity, the travel time to get to the top of the moutain road is a very long. My family alwyas leaves early to drive to not get too stuck in traffic from other tourists. Trollstigen is a very popular tourist destination. During the summer tourist season, the most popular season of travel in Norway, Trolsstigen gets around 2,500 vechiles a day.

At the top of the moutain road, there is a visitor center, restaurant, gift shops, and lookout areas. There are bridges connecting the visitor center. The bridges go over the river that leds to the waterfall. You can see through the bridges to look at the water in the river.

This photo doesn’t show it too well, but there are areas of the river with little to no current or breaks. In these areas, tourists are able to wade or swim in the river. My family and I never do because even if it’s summer it’s still cold. So, swimming in the on top of Trollstigen would be fun, I don’t want hypothermeia.

Here’s a better picture of the look out area that people can get a better look at the switch-backs.

The elvation gain is 2,70 feet. Here’s a persective from the top of the moutain-road to the closest town. The villages name is Valldal.

A differest persepctive of the waterfall from the river shown in previous images and a different persective from the top of the moutain-road.

Before you begin your travel up the moutain, there is a visitor center. There are lots of trolls on the merchandise, and statues where tourist can take pictures infront of.

My family always get ice cream on top of the moutain-road at the visitor center. There are cetain brands of ice ceam that are only avaible in Norway. So, my family takes advatage to have a Norway specific brands of ice cream.

The last time I was able to visit Trollstigen was in 2018. Due to COVID-19 my family and I have not visited since 2018, but I hope to visit Trollstigen soon.
