As we descended into the Bletterbach Gorge I was amazed at the beautiful scenery and could not wait for the views below
Arriving in the Gorge aws surreal and the view of the mountain ahead was astonishing. Everyone could see so clearly the layering of sedimentary rock in the mountain and it was the best way to learn by seeing it first hand. As we explored I found a few fossils and one very cool rock.
Introduction: My experience at the Bletterbach Gorge will never be forgotten. The gorge, which holds around 40 million years of Earth’s history, offers incredible insights into our planet’s past. Walking through its rock layers, I felt a deep connection to ancient worlds shaped by oceans, volcanic eruptions, and the relentless power of erosion. Each step revealed a new chapter in Earth’s geological story, deepening my understanding of how time and natural forces sculpt the landscapes we see today. The Bletterbach Gorge not only enriched my knowledge of geology but also instilled a lasting appreciation for the vastness of Earth’s history and what more humanity can learn from it.
As we ascended from the gorge, the steepness of the hike had all of us panting for air by the end. Thankfully, we were struck at the sight of the natural Spring water fountain above. It was the first cold water I had experienced in Italy and it was so refreshing I even filled my water bottle up using this cold water.
This experience was one I will never forget and the pictures will never capture how amazing the views at the Bletterbach Gorge are. Carolyn and I could not stop smiling! Can’t wait to see what comes next…
