Exploring Latemar today was inspiring and truly fascinating. The entire journey was so important to my experience on the trip. First off, I am an animal lover. Seeing the cows in the field was so beautiful. They had awe in their eyes and looking at them was like having a full conversation without even opening our mouths. There were many cows that made me smile, but a I created a connection with a couple. When we first got off the lift, there was a grey cow standing there greeting us. He was happy to see us coming in and he even mooed when we got off the chairlift! Another was the cow that was on the path as we were leaving the first pasture. He walked up to me and we looked at each other for a while. It made me happy to see these cows in a more ethical grazing environment. At home in Ohio, I always visit the cows that live about 30 minutes outside my town and it makes me so sad to see the small grazing fields they have and the crammed living facilities they exist in, so seeing this was really heartwarming.
Additionally, the geology of the area was amazing to me. The views of the mountains were fascinating. The vastness of the mountain range is so amazing, it brought me to tears. What interested me the most was the sandstone. The calcium carbonate sandstone present in the mountains are the same rocks that are present on the beaches in the Bahamas and I thought that was insane. It was so cool that they have completely different histories and geographical locations, but are the same.
