Fall Lake- Boundary Waters

My special place is in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northern Minnesota. Specifically, I chose Fall Lake. When I was 14 I started doing canoe trips through my all-girls summer camp. At 19, I led my own trip, guiding a group of 7 teenage girls in the Boundary Waters. Each time I have been on a canoe trip in the Boundary Waters, I have camped on Fall Lake. Leading my own trip in 2023 represented a really powerful full-circle moment for me. I remember how much those trips impacted me and my sense of self, independence, and confidence as a teenage girl. Creating that experience for other girls and leading them through their own growth and development meant the world to me. I would not be who I am today without those experiences. Not to mention the incomprehensible natural beauty of Fall Lake! I have never been somewhere so serene and awe-inspiring. Getting the chance to escape from city life, completely disconnect from technology, and recharge myself through a very simplified way of life is a gift; one which I am eternally grateful for.
