Hello! My name is Cora Watters and for my place I choose to share Fort Funston.
Fort Funston is one of the many old military stations that have been turned into historic sites in San Francisco. This area is relevant to our course because the government began to develop it upon the US entry into World War I. However, it has not been an active site since 1963. Now, this area is known for scenic hiking and horse-back riding. I have been going to this beach all my life with my family and on school trips.
When I go with my family we take a path that starts with a long set of stairs that wind down to the dunes above the beach and we spend hours hiking up and down the side and walking around the beach. I love this place because I have so many memories here but also because of the beautiful scenery.
The coastal vegetation has a vibrant range of colors and at sunset or sunrise it is exceptionally beautiful and serene. Another reason why this place is so fun is because it is an old fort. To this day when I am exploring here I discover new places and hidden areas that I had no idea about. I highly recommend checking it out if you are in San Francisco!
