In Asiago, I enjoyed our visit to the trench that was hidden away back in the farmland. It was interesting to see how a portion of the trench was still intact, while other parts had been filled in or removed. There isn’t a use for trenches now after the war and they are filled in to make better use of the land. Our tour guide even said that the sides were so low because during wartime there would have been higher piles of dirt and many more rows of barbed wire along the trench. It was interesting to see how the history was a part of the landscape, but that area is now changing.
The view of the mountains from the trenches. Austria is in the opposite direction, but our guide told us that this side was heavily barricaded because they would come from the valley which was easier.
Walking through the trenches.
Barbed wire along the trench facing the valley where it was more accessible for troops.
Some cows relaxing on the hill
Another cow that was trying to cross the road.
