2014 Bike Music Festival

University of Oregon

Q&A with Alexis Busso

By Ami Tajiri

Alexis Busso is a freshman at the University of Oregon, from Bandon, Oregon. She is involved in a vast number of societies and clubs on campus, and loves to get involved whenever she can, so when she heard about the Bike Music Festival, she couldn’t wait to see what it was all about.

Ami Tajiri: How did you hear about this event?

Alexis Busso: I’m actually on the mailing list for the outdoor events here, and I get an email, I think once a week, and so when I saw this one I immediately signed up, and here I am.

AT: Did anything in particular about this event draw you to it?

AB: I love biking and being outside and the concept seemed so cool to power the festival through bikes so I wanted to come and be a part of it. It seems like it’s not just the students who are a part of it either, so I feel like it creates a great opportunity for community bonding as well

AT: Have you been to this event or heard about it before this year?

 AB: No I hadn’t.

AT: Have you ever seen something like this before elsewhere?

AB: No, and that’s another reason why I wanted to see this, because I just has no idea what to expect.

AT: I saw you biking it up down in the amphitheater—how long were you on there?

AB: Oh, only for like 20 minutes, but I got tired. I can run, but biking is way different.

AT: Are you planning on following the crowd over to Skinner’s Butte after this for part two?

AB: Unfortunately I can’t stay that long, so I wanted to get down here early so I could at least see the first part.

AT: From what you’ve seen so far, what have you gotten out of the Bike Music Festival?

AB: It is definitely one of those fun, feel-good events that you can go to to forget the stress of school for a little while, but also it is such an unusual idea that actually benefits the environment, so I think that is special.

AT: I know you were only able to see the first set, but from what you have seen, would you be interested in participating again?

AB: Absolutely. It’s an amazing concept and everyone I’ve seen is having a great time. I wish I could stay longer to see what it coming next—whoever it is, I bet it will be so much fun.
