Mark works in areas of biophysical geography and geographic information science and the interfaces between the two topical areas. He is particularly interested in riverscape and mountain environments, regionally specializing in the western United States. Further interests include how humans interact with their environments through lenses such as theory, management, hazards, sustainability, law, engineering, remote sensing, restoration, and habitat.
