The patented thin-film heat exchanger recovers heating and cooling energy from ventilation air using inexpensive material. This solution exploits underused areas (the crawl space or attic) in residential or light commercial buildings and can be retrofit into existing buildings or new construction. We have performed testing, prototype construction, and a feasibility study for this product. First cost is 90% less than competitive heat exchangers. The potential national energy savings for the heat exchanger is estimated to be 3 to 29 trillion kBtu for a 1%-10% market penetration.
