International Student Makes Abroad Experiences Picture Perfect
University of Oregon student tells of her times abroad, taking pictures of things she loves.
“Every time I traveled, I just wanted to record the memories and every good picture I saw,” says University of Oregon Senior, Jue Wang. The 21-year-old may seem young in spirit, but she has a lot of experience under her belt. Traveling to almost every continent, Jue has taken pictures of everything she crosses. “I do like photos for the landscape, but sometimes I like to take pictures of the local people and how they live and how they’re different from us,” Jue explains. “Sometimes that’s hard for me to do that, because I’m kinda shy and embarrassed…sometimes it’s kinda weird…Sometimes they’re like ‘Oh, take photos for me!’ and I’ve met some cool guys.”
Getting started, Jue played with a Nikon D90 camera that was a gift from her father. But more recently, she’s been shooting with a Nikon D800 that was her 18th birthday gift, again from her father. Family is very close to Jue’s heart. Being an only child, she travels with her mother and father and takes pictures of their journeys. It’s become a tradition of sorts, she explains to me, that her family sets out to a new destination 2 to 3 times a year. She loves the warm weather, so in choosing to study abroad in America, she quite literally is chasing the sun, much like she’s chasing her dreams.
For the future, Jue is almost set with a degree in Advertising and minors in Economics and Digital Art. When asked if being a photographer is her dream job, Jue responds “That may have been my dream in high school…but then after several years, it’s…I don’t know. I want to do more. I want to do videotaping and advertising…I just want to give different things a try and not just limit photography.” She is excited to see where photography and travel can take her for the future, for she is not done exploring just yet.
