CRISPR, clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, is a recently developed genetic alteration technique. In principal, CRISPR allows the insertion or deletion of any genes with relatively great accuracy. This technology opens the genetic door of altering the genetic code of babies to eliminate genetic disease.
This article I found, written by Austen Yeager, looks into the ethical implications of using CRISPR to eliminate genetic disease. If child births are natural and genes are natural, is the human alteration of genes natural? Are we, as humans, breaching the ‘natural’? When do we deem somehting unnatural?
