Here is an ad promoting Nevada tourism. This image is very interesting. First of all, nature is portrayed as an untouched land of white (as it commonly in skiing ads). But the troubling piece of this ad is the combination of a white hand and a hand covered in a black glove. Harris’ article wrote about how there is no marketing to minority groups in a large portion of the outdoor industry. Is this a troubling attempt to bridge that gap?

Hmm– this is an interesting image and the start of a good reading. I agree this image is picking up tropes of racial harmony (i.e. “white” and “black” hands embracing in many images of bridging racial divides). Is this an explicitly racialized take on taking to nature? It seems hard to tell, but I’m intrigued by your reading of it.
