Stinky Cheese Man!

Definitely one of those books that my mom didn’t like when I was younger. She probably still doesn’t care for it today. I came across this article that claims that The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Stupid Fairy Tales introduces its readers to “post-modern landscapes.” I thought that this was an interesting concept. The article also points out the fact that the narrator constantly questions how the book is being put together (What’s the ISBN for? Are title pages needed? Does anyone read them?) This book has been said to teach critical thinking and skepticism. Whether or not it has done that for its readers, it’s one of a kind, strange children’s book.

  1. Well– I never thought I’d see this in the archive– but am pleased as punch that it is. This was one of my favorite books as a child! Introducing children to postmodern language– not sure I’d have put it that way back in the day, but it does seem accurate.
