In Pursuit of Conflict-Free Minerals

Here is an ad by Intel for their strive and commitment to conflict free minerals. I found this video extremely fitting following Wainaina’s article, illustrating many of the tropes and symbols mentioned. Notice the depiction of ‘Africa’ as underdeveloped, third world, rough indigenous lifestyle. Also there is bold imagery of AK47s and workers toiling in hard conditions, and kids smiling towards western presence. There is also the stark contrast between the U.S. and the Congo, with the implication that the West is coming to save the day with fancy clothes and new technology.
