Greetings my excellent friends!

This is my final DH project for my ENG470 Capstone class. I have created a website from scratch detailing the events leading up to the Morant Bay Rebellion, the historical figures that were a part of the rebellion, and the aftermath and legacy they left in history. I chose to cover the story of Paul Bogle and George William Gordon. While going through my site you’ll be able to interact with lots of different images, timelines, videos, and documents to fully understand the story and history behind this tragedy through storytelling in the same way the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is told.

Project Description and Goals:

I was prompted to do this project in this format because I thought it would be the most engaging and intriguing to the general public. I wanted to give non-historians and students a reason to care about the Morant Bay Rebellion and want to learn more. I figured that telling them the story through a familiar and modern movie would be the best way to go. I chose to take my audience on a time-traveling journey. Just like in the movie “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures” they travel back in time to learn about history from the subjects themselves. This allows them to find out what truly happened in history and get the full story from the historical figures. This allows for the historical figures to speak up, and over the suppression they experienced during this time. Be sure to click on each YouTube video between historical figures so you experience the “time jump” with Bill and Ted. This will help you experience virtual time travel!

My project questions:

  • How could I get the general public to care about the Morant Bay Rebellion?
  • How can I tell the full story while focusing on the key historical figures?
  • What can I create that will help everyone enjoy learning about history more?

Thesis Statement:

In exploring the Morant Bay Rebellion (specifically the events leading up to the Morant Bay Rebellion, the rebellion itself, and the aftermath), this website gives an example of strategies that will engage the general public with this pivotal event in Jamaican history, while spotlighting key historical figures (Paul Bogle and George William Gordon). This immersive experience filled with engaging tools invites a wider audience to appreciate history and connect with the significance of the Morant Bay Rebellion.
