Reflections

Reflections are always vital for growth, especially for any writer. That’s why I thoroughly enjoyed being able to look at work that my peers completed in the Data and Metadata lab. We all have created our own little identities online, and it was educating to see how we all defined digital citizenship differently. I decided to pick blog posts that were formatted very differently from each other, hoping to see if there were connections that we all made in our own posts. I picked a post written by hsherma2 titled, “Digital Citizenship” I quickly noticed the fun variety of format that was used, and the fun outgoing personality that was expressed. Then I looked at a post that was done by Sophie Cannon. Sophie was great at making the reader feel welcomed to “Sophie’s Savvy guide to Digital Citizenship.” hsherma2 and Sophie had a similar format, with a list of viewpoints describing the main key points of a digital citizen. The next post I reviewed was done by espellma. They are freshmen here at University of Oregon, and I was very interested in seeing the difference between Emily’s and an upperclassman. However, I am surprised to say that despite the age/grade difference, all of our posts seem to have similar goals and definitions. For example, the majority of posts say that all of our blogs have a similar definition of a digital citizen, referring to being responsible online and overall creating a safe environment for yourself and others. I also thoroughly enjoyed the formats of all blog posts.

Digital Citizenship

I always want to continue to learn how to be a better digital citizen every single day. I believe that this lab has even helped me become a better digital citizen just by allowing me to reflect on what my classmates have posted. It has allowed me to see what I can improve on to make my posts more enjoyable for readers online. I also would continue to use my voice outside of our ENG 250 class. More than ever, we need to be vocal, and I believe that my skills from this class have allowed me to grow exponentially in this area.

S.M.A.R.T. Goal

Goal making has never come naturally to me. However, I am striving to become better as a person who uses digital technology, and so I know it’s vital to become competent in the subject.

Specific: At the end of the term, I want to be able to post online without hesitating over my subject. I want to become more confident with what I am putting online.
Measurable: I will be able to tell if I am doing well through my posts from the beginning of the term, and comparing them to the ones at the end.
Attainable: I know that I have it in me to create original content that is important to me, and I can do that by becoming educated on the material before I post my blogs.
Relevant: I will have to put in work to do the research, and make sure that my work isn’t going to be harmful to anyone online. I want my work to be truthful and honest!
Time-bound: My deadline is the end of the quarter, but I want my skills to continue to assist me towards the rest of my life!

Overall, my S.M.A.R.T. goal has created a lot of clarity for me. Before the end of the term, I want to create content that not only serves me, but also serves those around me. I want my work to be truthful but not harmful. I also want my newly gained skills to assist me through the rest of my life.
