This is me: Chloe. Or as you guys have known me for the last nine months, the EMU Blog Editor.
I am a senior from Los Angeles, California majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Sociology. As my time at the University of Oregon comes to a close and I start to wrap up my last week of college, I’ve been reflecting on what this last year, and more specifically this position, has meant to me.
I applied as the EMU Blog Editor not entirely knowing what I was in for. I am a huge advocate for journaling my everyday thoughts and feelings however, formal blogging is a whole new world I had not dipped my toe into. I hoped that my four years of Grammar and Writing courses as a Journalism student would come in handy… And thankfully, they did.
I’ll admit, I had no idea what I was doing in my first blog post. It took me about four hours to get comfortable enough with the website to figure out how to post and then another two hours to figure out how to add a photo! Week by week, it got easier to brainstorm ideas for stories, I became more comfortable interviewing strangers and the blog turned into my outlet. I considered school as work and my job as something I did entirely for myself and my well-being.
This last year was filled from head to toe with new experiences, some good and some bad. On my bad days, my job as the EMU Blog Editor gave me a purpose, and even if not one person in the world read my blog post, it gave me a level of pride and confidence I’ve never experienced.
This blog post was definitely NOT a one-woman show. From the first week I joined the EMU Media Team, I felt incredibly welcomed and supported. Anytime I was struggling with a story or just in my daily life, they gave me a level of comfort that I was not expecting to get from coworkers. They constantly checked in on me and gave me every tool and resource I would need to succeed.
This University has given me so much, from the best days at Autzen stadium, to friends/roomies I will have forever to a job that proved to me I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to. Every piece I ever posted, I saw as a reflection of myself and my amazing experiences at Oregon. I hope I made this school as proud of me as I am of it.
I wish I could close my eyes, tap my feet and go back and live the last four years over again and while I am not sure what I’ll be doing after I graduate, I know that this school and this position has given me the tools I need to succeed and make the most out of all of life’s opportunities. So thank you to my readers, the EMU Media Team, my friends, family, professors and everyone in between, and as always, Go Ducks!
