It has officially been two weeks since my second COVID-19 vaccine. Getting the vaccination means I can better protect myself, and others, from the virus as well as know that even if I do get it, my body stands a better chance of fighting it off and recovering quicker. I don’t even know where to begin describing the relief I feel. I’m here to encourage you to get your vaccine and tell you all about my own experience with it.
The way it worked out, I was first eligible to get my COVID-19 vaccine in my hometown before I was in Lane County. I was able to register for an appointment online, get in my car, drive to my vaccination destination and get my shot through my car window. I didn’t even so much as have to take off my seat belt! I was then told to wait 15 minutes for observation, 21 days for my second round and then that was it… I was vaccinated!
With both my first and second Pfizer shot, I experienced nothing but a little bit of shoulder pain which is normal when you get any kind of shot. I drank nearly a gallon of water and tried to get in minimal exercise after my doses just to keep the body and fluids moving.
It’s important to note that every body has a different reaction to vaccines and medications however, that isn’t an excuse not to take them. The majority of my friends and family members experienced various reactions however, they never let the possibility of that keep them from getting the vaccine. The benefits far outweigh the cons and every shot administered means we are that much closer to getting back to normal.
We are lucky to go to a school that can provide us vaccines right on campus. Our beautiful Autzen Stadium is responsible for vaccinating the majority of the Lane County population, making it even easier for students and faculty to get access.
As the University of Oregon just announced, all students and employees who learn, work or live on campus will have to receive a COVID-19 vaccination before the start of the fall term. From someone whose senior year was affected by the coronavirus, I am beyond happy to hear that with time, our campus will be able to return to normal. I’m excited for the incoming freshman and now almost sophomores to be able to experience our campus at its full speed. So, encourage your friends, family members and others to educate themselves on the importance of being vaccinated and what it could mean for our future!
