Learning Objectives – Revisited

Now that is has been 10 weeks since first taking this course, I am reviewing what I had wanted to learn and to compare it to what I have actually learned.

  • Make a program/playbill – This was not actually accomplished but the closest I  got was to create an 11″ x 17″ poster and a display for a local paper, along with other forms of collateral.
  • Design a logo – check!  I really like how it turned out and now I know how to use Adobe Illustrator to my best abilities, plus messing with the anchor points and paths helped create more whitespace for the final logo image.
  • Create tickets – Not yet, but I designed a business card and t-shirt!
  • Connect various social media outlets to promote events, mission of organization, etc – Hmmm, not really, I am thinking this is going to be stuff covered at a later term.
  • Develop website for local non-profit – Not yet either, but I just tried out Wix for another project and I think I may be on to something.  After taking this class, I am interested in taking the Comparitive technologies class in the spring.  And with experience with WordPress has definitely been a big motivator to make a dedicated website for Free Shakespeare in the Park.
  • Learn to use Adobe Photoshop software – I learned Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, but no Photoshop, maybe next term or in the spring?
  • Photography of productions for use on websites or social media – Still a no, but I may have misunderstood how the class would operate.

In the end I have learned a lot about Adobe Illustrator and InDesign that I feel is a huge boon to my professional brand as an arts administrator, but based on what I wanted to complete in class tells me I need to take another class and Eric’s Compartivie Technologies is looking really good to me.
